It’s ironic… lives that matter most are lived by those who are least precious about themselves and seek little fanfare. It takes great humility to do great work. This is why I love scientists… they regard their entire lives as one leg of the long relay race of progress. Few will see the end of their race and even fewer will medal. In today’s age of personality, with attention as society’s most valued currency, this is becoming rarer. That’s a scary problem for all of us.
